Urbana Adult Education has offered a comprehensive education program since it was established in 1963 with a part-time evening program.  In 1970 a full time adult center was opened.

UAEC proudly offers FREE high school, Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), English as a Second Language (ESL), Computer and other courses to adults ages 16 years and older.  We are proud of the unique educational and career opportunities our programs offer and strive to meet the individual needs of each and every student, at their own pace.

Urbana Adult Education Center provides lifelong learning opportunities to persons who reside in Urbana, Champaign, and surrounding communities. Classes are funded through federal and state grants, with help from local sources such as The United Way of Champaign County.

Anyone 16 years or older who is not enrolled in a regular school may enroll. You may begin at any time and continue until you have reached your educational goals. Daytime and evening classes are available Fall and Spring semesters.

UAEC aims to provide students with the opportunity to succeed through immersion in problem-based curriculum and performance-based teaching and learning that prepares them to be college- and career-ready.

Invest in our Future–Unlimited Pathways

The ambassadors of UAEC are a dedicated group of donors who make an annual unrestricted gift to the Urbana Adult Education Center. The ambassadors understand and value the unique role that the Urbana Adult Education Center (UAEC) plays in East Central Illinois–offering people renewed hope to transform and actively engage in the revitalization of our neighborhoods and communities. Their gifts help us provide opportunities for intellectual growth and civic engagement regardless of their age, ethnicity, education, or geographic location. Won’t you say Yes, to giving?

The goals of Invest in our Future–Unlimited Pathways are twofold:

  • to raise $5,000,000 for our endowment fund so we may support the continuation of the Urbana Adult Education Center to ensure that our students have unlimited pathways to become college- and career-ready
  • to raise awareness of the Urbana Adult Education Center and the benefits our programs have on the community, life-long learning, and workforce development.

STEM UP Project

Students enrolled in any program at the UAEC will be exposed to the broad spectrum of science, technology, engineering and mathematics careers as viable and attainable career options, despite previous setbacks.

  • STEM laboratory equipment- $500,000
  • Reading software and texts- $250,000
  • Classroom technology- $250,000
