Hi, my name is Charlene Stevens, and I’m from Champaign, Illinois. I have been in the health care setting for almost forty years. I first worked as a Nurse Aid in the local city hospital, in the Neurology unit. After graduating from Parkland College, with and Associate Degree in Nursing, I worked in the Medical-Surgical unit. I was recruited to a physicians group specializing in Women’s Health, I taught Lamaze Method of Preparation for Childbirth, for five years. Then transferred to Mercy Hospital, now Presence, and worked nights in Obstetrics and Gynecology. I continued in Women’s Health for a total of 17 years. Then, after completing my Bachelorette in Nursing from the University of Illinois, at the Urbana-Champaign campus, I made a major professional change to Public Health Nursing. I continued in this specialty for 18 years, I loved it! Now more recently I have taught at Parkland College, and at Urbana Adult Education. I love my students! Ops, and I’m a nurse at Circle of Friends Adult Daycare, the focus population is mostly the elderly, just like me! I am proud of my service to the Champaign-Urbana community and I encourage all who reads this to join me in a fascinating ever changing profession of nursing!
